The Regional Health research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) had its 3rd Health R&D Expo last July 29-30, 2013 at the Mindanao Ballroom, Grand Regal Hotel Davao, Lanang, Davao City.
It was an opportune time for the UIC Pharmacy and MLS programs to showcase their quality undergraduate and graduate health research results in the 2 day R&D Expo. Their success was evidence by gaining the first, second and third places.
Mr. Kenny James Merin, one of the pharmacy faculty and presently a student of BS in Clinical Pharmacy, won the 1st place in the Graduate and Creative Research – Oral Presentation Competition on his research entitled, “Preliminary Acute Toxicological Analyses and Profiling of a Commercially – Available Mangosteen (Garania mangostana) Xanthone Capsule.”
Winning 2nd place was the research of Mrs. Sonia Morales, MSPharm entitled, “Urine Output Increasing Activity of Formulated Tea from Black Zapote (Diosporus digyna Jacq. Ebenaceae) Leaves.”
Mr. John Mark de Real, also one of the MLS clinical instructors placed 3rd in the Oral Presentation Competition – Graduate Level in his research entitled, “The Sensitivity and Specificity of Rapid Diagnostic Test for Malaria Parasite in Comparison to Slide Microscopy as Gold Standard.”
Judges for the Oral Presentation – Graduate Category were renowned personalities in their field of specialization: Dr. Graciela G. Gonzales, Epidemiologist and Faculty, College of Medicine UST; Dr. Lauro T. Gonzales, Incorporator and Manager, Rx Box Project – National Telehealth Center, Faculty – UP, and Dr. Raul Martin Coching, Epidemiologist, Cardiologist and Faculty – DMSF.
This yearly R&D Expo is an event UIC always look forward to as it provides the venue for exposing research results and also educating the public on the completed health researches. The faculty and students of the UIC Pharmacy and MLS are again busy preparing their researches as it awaits the next DOST R&D Expo in 2014.
